GE washer blink lights (pilot)

By · Published · Updated · Sources

This pilot is for GE top-load washers that use status lights instead of (or alongside) a scrolling message. Pick what you see — we map it to a physical check. Patterns below come from GE’s Consumer Help Indicator chart; always verify in your model’s manual.

Safety note

These pages are educational DIY tips for older machines — not a licensed repair service. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before opening panels. If you smell gas, burning, or see sparks, stop and call a professional. Leave gas lines, sealed refrigerant, mold remediation, fire-damaged equipment, and structural work to licensed pros.

Guides are educational DIY tips, not a licensed repair service. You assume the risk of any work you perform; stop if unsure. Unplug or switch the breaker before opening panels. Try this first
  1. Write down exactly which lights blink (and whether a message scrolls).
  2. Confirm both hot and cold taps are fully open; straighten supply hoses.
  3. Unplug or switch the breaker for 1 minute, then retry a short cycle after any lockout wait.

Wash and Rinse lights blinking together

Likely meaning: water is not entering the washer. GE lists this with H2O SUPPLY / IE — “water not entering washer.”

  • Open both supply valves fully (common after install or vacation).
  • Check for kinked fill hoses; clean inlet screen filters if your model has them (power off first).
  • GE notes a roughly 4-minute lockout while the message/blink is active — controls may not respond until it ends. Unplugging restarts that timer.

Verify in your manual — light names and lockout timing can vary by model year.

Spin light blinking (or Spin & Rinse)

Likely meaning: out-of-balance load. GE says the washer is trying to rebalance; it may not reach full spin speed, so clothes can finish wetter than usual.

  • Redistribute laundry evenly around the basket.
  • Confirm the washer is level.
  • Run a Drain & Spin (or Spin) after redistributing if the load is still soaked.

Lid or Lid Locked message / light

GE’s chart: if Lid appears after three cycles without opening the lid, open then close the lid before starting again. A dE-style lid-open indication means close the lid. Don’t force a lock.

When to call a pro

  • Water still doesn’t enter after taps, hoses, and screens are confirmed good.
  • Burning smell, sparks, or water near electrics — stop and call a technician.
  • Repeated imbalance with a level machine and evenly loaded basket (suspension or sensor territory).
