Midea Dehumidifier Eb Error Code: What It Means and How to Fix It
Eb on a Midea portable dehumidifier means the bucket is removed or not in the right position. Midea lists it for models with a built-in pump. It nearly always shows up right after the bucket was emptied, and most owners clear it in a minute or two by reseating the bucket.
Everything on this page is optional DIY that you do at your own risk. If you're unsure, stop and contact Midea.
These take about 3 minutes and need no tools.
- Press Power off and unplug the dehumidifier. You'll be handling a water bucket next to an outlet.
- Pull the bucket slowly straight out using both side handles. Set it on a flat surface. Midea warns that the bottom is uneven and can tip and spill.
- Empty any water and wipe up drips from the floor and the bucket opening right away.
- Check that the pump hose and filter are still attached inside the bucket opening (pump models). If they dropped, put them back before the bucket goes in.
- Push the bucket gently all the way back in, then plug in and turn the unit on.
If Eb is gone, you're done. The compressor can take up to 3 minutes to restart after a stop. Midea says that's normal protection.

This page covers one code. See every Midea dehumidifier code we cover on our Dehumidifier error codes page.
What the Eb code means
Midea's Error Codes and Protection Code table defines Eb as: "Bucket is removed or not in right position – Replace the bucket in the right position. (only available for the unit with pump feature.)" Midea's US dehumidifier FAQ uses the same wording.
Eb is a very common Midea dehumidifier complaint, and it almost always shows up right after the bucket was emptied. Usually the bucket isn't all the way in, or the pump hose fell off when you pulled it out. Don't panic, and don't buy a control board yet. Start with the zero-tool checks in Try This First.
What you'll see: in Midea's pump-model manual, if you pull the bucket out while the unit is on, the compressor and fan turn off, the unit beeps 8 times, and the display shows Eb. If the unit is off when you pull the bucket out, it still beeps 8 times and shows Eb. So a beep-and-Eb as you empty the bucket is expected. It only becomes a problem if Eb stays after the bucket is back in.
Cube models (the unit sits on top of its bucket): Midea's Cube manual says that if you lift the unit off the bucket while it's running, the display shows Eb and the unit stops until you put it back on the bucket or switch to bucketless mode.
Look-alike codes that mean something else:
- P2 – the bucket is full. On non-pump models, P2 also covers a bucket that's out of position, so those units show P2 instead of Eb. See our P2 page.
- AS – humidity sensor error.
- ES – evaporator tube temperature sensor error.
- EC – refrigerant leakage detection. This is not a bucket problem (see Safety notes).
Likely causes (most common first)
- The bucket isn't all the way in after you emptied it.
- The bucket got bumped and slid partway out.
- The pump hose or filter fell off when the bucket came out. It can keep the bucket from seating, and Midea says the pump won't work properly without the filter.
- Something is blocking the bucket opening, like a towel, the hose, or packing material.
- A Cube unit isn't sitting square on its bucket, or was meant to run in bucketless mode but that mode isn't on.
- A fault inside the unit. If Eb stays on with the bucket properly seated, the problem is inside the unit and needs service.
How to fix it, step by step
Unplug the unit before each hands-on step. Check whether Eb clears after each one.
- Reseat the bucket as described in Try This First. Midea says to push it gently all the way in, and not to touch any parts inside the unit while the bucket is out.
- Reattach the pump hose or filter if it dropped. Midea's FAQ describes the filter as a long tube with a round filter on the end. Reinstall it, then put the bucket back in.
- Clear the bucket opening. Take out anything that keeps the bucket from going straight in.
- On Cube models, reseat the unit on the bucket. Lift with proper technique, line it up, and set it down squarely. Midea says to make sure it's seated properly.
- On Cube models, turn bucketless mode back on if you use it.
- Midea says bucketless mode has to be turned on within 3 minutes of plugging the unit in.
- Connect the continuous drain hose first. It must slope down and never rise above the drain port.
- Plug in, then hold the UP and FILL LEVEL buttons together for 3 seconds until the bucketless icon appears.
- Midea's auto-restart after a power cut doesn't bring bucketless mode back. If the power went out, you'll need to turn it on again.
- Restart and wait a few minutes. Give it the 3-minute compressor delay.
- Stop here if Eb won't clear with the bucket (or Cube unit) properly seated. Do the checks under Test the part, then contact Midea.
Test the part
Unplug the dehumidifier before emptying the bucket, cleaning the filter, or opening any panel. Wipe spills immediately — standing water can warp floors and feed mold. Never open or puncture the sealed refrigerant system (EC / sealed-system codes need EPA Section 608–certified service). Take resistance (ohm) readings only with the power disconnected, and if you’re not comfortable using a multimeter, stop and call a pro.
You don't need a multimeter for Eb. These checks are visual and safe for owners. Don't open the case.
- Unplug the dehumidifier.
- Check the bucket. Make sure it isn't cracked or warped and that nothing is stuck to its back edge. Midea recommends washing it every few weeks with mild detergent and water, not in the dishwasher.
- Check the float or full-level piece, if your bucket has one. It should move freely and not be stuck with grime. Don't bend or force it.
- Check the pump filter tube on pump models. Make sure it's attached and clean. Midea says the pump won't work properly without it.
- Do a test fit. Slide the bucket in gently. It should go all the way in without catching.
- Stop if everything looks fine. Don't remove panels, test wiring, or touch the refrigeration system. If Eb won't clear after these checks, the bucket sensor or switch inside may need service.
Safety notes
- DIY at your own risk. Follow your model's manual. Stop if you're unsure.
- Unplug before handling the bucket. Midea warns against removing the bucket while the unit is running because of shock risk.
- Mop up spills immediately. Water left sitting can warp floors and cause mold. Mold growth or damage to a floor or subfloor needs a remediation or flooring professional. Clearing the code doesn't fix that.
- Don't drink the bucket water.
- Don't take the unit apart. Midea says disassembly can cause failure and electric shock.
- EC is a different code. EC means refrigerant leakage detection. Midea's manuals warn that R32 models use a flammable refrigerant, so keep flames and sparks away and call Midea. Repairs to the sealed refrigerant system require an EPA Section 608 certified technician. Never open the sealed system.
When to call a pro
- Eb won't clear with the bucket or Cube unit properly seated, after Try This First and the steps above.
- The pump light keeps blinking even after you've cleaned the pump filter, checked the hose, and emptied the bucket. Midea says to contact Customer Service if that happens.
- Water leaks from the cabinet, or the display shows EC, AS, or ES.
- The unit is under warranty. Call Midea before attempting any repair.
- There's water damage. Mold or warped flooring needs a remediation or flooring pro.
Midea's US manuals list the Service Center number as 1-866-646-4332. Have your model number ready. It's on the silver nameplate on the back.

FAQ
What does Eb mean on a Midea dehumidifier?
The bucket is removed or not in the right position. Midea lists this code for pump-feature models. Push the bucket gently all the way in.
Why does my Midea beep 8 times and show Eb?
That's Midea's normal signal that the bucket was pulled out. Put it back in and the code should clear.
Eb won't go away after I put the bucket back. What now?
Make sure the pump hose and filter are attached and nothing blocks the bucket. Then unplug and reseat it. If Eb stays, contact Midea.
What's the difference between Eb and P2?
On pump models, Eb means the bucket is out of position and P2 means it's full. Non-pump models use P2 for both.
