Samsung Dryer dC Error Code: What It Means and How to Fix It
A dC code on a Samsung dryer means the dryer thinks the door isn't closed and latched. It's one of the easiest Samsung codes to fix. Usually a sleeve or sock is caught in the door, or the door just isn't pushed shut. If the latch is broken or the code won't clear, it's a service call.
Samsung groups dC, dE, dF, do, d0, 1 DC and 1 dF together as door-related errors, so the steps below apply to all of them.
- Open the door and look around the edge. Pull out any clothing caught between the door and the opening.
- Close the door firmly until it latches, then press Start again.
- Untangle the load. Samsung's manual says tangled items can cause the door to open during a cycle.
- Check Child Lock. Samsung's UK and Australian pages say you may see this code when you open the door while Child Lock is on.
- Power the dryer off and on. Unplug it, or switch off its breaker, for about 30 seconds, then try again.

What the dC code means
Samsung's US support page says the door-related errors "are related to the door, its latch, and the sensors that detect whether they are secured correctly." Samsung says this can happen when the door won't stay closed, or won't close or latch.
The user manual for one current US model (DVE(G)50BG8300) puts it simply: dC means "Operating the dryer with the door open." Its fix is to make sure the door is properly closed and that laundry isn't caught in the door.
dF is a little different. Samsung's US page lists it with the door codes. But the same user manual describes dF as "Incorrect door switch" and says to contact a Samsung service center. Samsung's UK and Australian pages say the same. So a dF code is more likely to need a repair than a plain dC.
dE, do and d0 appear on different models and display types. Samsung's UK and Australian pages list dC and dE together as "Door is open." Models without a digital display show codes as blinking lights instead, Samsung says. Check your user manual's information code table for your model.
dC during a Vent Blockage test: Samsung's manual says dC can also appear as a test result, meaning the unit is detecting the door is open. Close the door properly and run the test again.
Likely causes (most common first)
- Laundry caught in the door. Samsung lists this first.
- The door isn't fully closed. A quick push usually fixes it.
- A tangled or overstuffed load pushing the door open mid-cycle. Samsung's manual warns that tangled items can cause the door to open.
- Child Lock is on when you open the door. Samsung's UK and Australian pages say this can trigger the message.
- A loose or damaged latch. Samsung says to check that the latch is securely fixed.
- A bent or damaged door, or a door that was recently reversed and isn't lining up.
- A faulty door switch or its wiring. This is what Samsung's user manual and UK/AU pages say dF means.
How to fix it, step by step
Try a cycle after each step.
- Stop the dryer and open the door.
- Clear the door opening. Remove any clothing caught along the door edge and seal.
- Untangle the load. Separate twisted sheets and shirts. Samsung recommends untangling items before you put them in the dryer.
- Don't overload. Samsung's manual says one wash load should equal one dryer load.
- Close the door firmly. Listen or feel for the latch to catch.
- Turn off Child Lock if it's on. Samsung's manual for one model says to press and hold Dryness and Temp. for 3 seconds. The buttons vary by model, so check your manual or look for the lock icon on the panel.
- Check the latch. Look at the latch on the door and the catch on the dryer.
- Make sure it's securely fixed and not loose, cracked or missing pieces.
- Make sure nothing (lint, a small item) is blocking the catch.
- Look at the door's alignment. Close it slowly and see whether the latch lines up with the catch.
- If you recently reversed the door, recheck the "Door reversal" steps in your user manual.
- Reset the power. Unplug the dryer or switch off its breaker for about 30 seconds, then restart.
- Request service if the code won't clear, the latch or door is damaged, or you see dF. Samsung's US page says to visit its Support Center to request service if the code can't be corrected.
Test the part
Unplug the appliance (or switch off its breaker) and turn off the water supply before you open any panel. Take resistance (ohm) readings only with the power disconnected, and if you’re not comfortable using a multimeter, stop and call a pro.
Most dC codes are fixed by the checks above. If they aren't, here's what you can safely check yourself.
- Unplug the dryer. On a gas dryer, also turn off the gas valve before moving it.
- Inspect the latch closely. Use a flashlight. Look for a cracked latch, a broken spring, or a catch that wobbles.
- Check the door hinges. Open the door and gently lift it. A door that sags or moves a lot at the hinge may not reach the latch.
- Check the door seal area. Make sure no clothing or debris is stuck where the door meets the cabinet.
- Door switch wiring (dF). Samsung's UK and Australian pages say to unplug the dryer and check for loose or damaged wiring in the door/lock switch circuit. They add that the whole door lock/switch may need replacing. Reaching it means removing panels, and where it sits varies by model, so check your parts diagram first. Look for loose connectors or damaged wires only.
- Stop here. Samsung doesn't publish a door switch test value for owners.
Never tape, wedge, jumper or bypass the door switch. It's there to stop the drum when the door opens.
Safety notes
- Unplug the dryer before inspecting the latch closely or removing any panel.
- Never bypass the door switch. A dryer that runs with the door open is a burn and injury risk.
- Gas dryers: turn off the gas valve before moving the dryer. If you smell gas, leave the house and call your gas company from outside.
- Let the drum cool before reaching around the door opening after a cycle.
- Watch for sharp edges if you remove panels. Get help moving the dryer.
When to call a pro
Request Samsung service or call an appliance technician if:
- The code won't clear after you've cleared the door, untangled the load, closed the door firmly and reset the power.
- The latch, catch or door is damaged, cracked or loose. Samsung says to request service when there's damage to the door or latch.
- You see dF. Samsung's user manual calls it an incorrect door switch and say to contact service.
- Replacing the latch or switch means removing panels and you don't have the tools or the parts diagram for your model.
- Your dryer is under warranty. Check the terms before opening any panels.

FAQ
What does dC mean on a Samsung dryer?
The dryer thinks the door isn't closed or latched. Check for clothing caught in the door and close it firmly.
Are dC, dE and do the same?
Samsung's US page groups dC, dE, dF, do, d0, 1 DC and 1 dF as door-related errors. The code shown depends on your model.
Is dF different from dC?
Yes. Samsung's user manual calls dF an incorrect door switch, which usually needs service.
Why does my Samsung dryer show dC in the middle of a cycle?
A tangled or overloaded load can push the door open, Samsung's manual says. Untangle the load and don't overfill the drum.
